Colostrum Supplements

Colostrum supplements are good for many types of ailments. Studies have shown them to boost the immune system, detoxify the body and also supply the body with a pure source of liquid protein.  In fact it is so rich in protein that it is recommended for people who are so frail that they are unable to ingest solid food.

However colostrum, which is a clear colorless fluid that is emitted from a mammal mother (including humans and cows) just a few days after the mother has given birth, is recently being touted as a cure all for all kinds of disorders when not all the facts are not in about what ingesting this substance from cows actually does. This is why you must be very careful when shopping for colostrum as not all of the claims about what it can do are substantiated by scientific research just yet.

Colostrum supplements, which are sold in powdered form or as tablets, are sometimes advertised as helping to build muscle, cure depression, help a person lose weight, curing head injuries, regulating blood sugar, fighting cancer and improving mood. It is important to remember that these claims have not been substantiated by any real medical studies.  For instance, just because colostrum is rich in protein does not mean that it is a miracle weight loss drugs. These types of conclusions are probably derived from the fact that many people display an improvement in their health in general after taking bovine colustrum.

So what can colostrum supplements do for you?  Scientific studies have proved that it can help improve the condition of your colon so that it produces friendly bacteria. This is important especially if you consider that most alternative doctors believe that “death begins in the colon.”

Colostrum supplements have also been shown to boost immunity in frail or ailing patients. You will also see online that colostrum is often sold, as being helpful for AIDS patients but you should really consult with your doctor before taking it. This is because AIDS patients suffer from an overactive immune system and the ingestion of colostrum supplements may actually push it into overdrive. If you are HIV positive or have AIDS this may be the last kind of effect you may want to achieve.

Are colostrum supplements for everyone?  The answer is no. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid colostrum supplements. This is because the bovine source of colostrum could interfere with what the human mother naturally produces to nourish her baby. There can be too much of a good thing!

Colostrum supplements are also not recommended for people with certain types of cancer especially prostrate, colorectal and lung cancer. This is because bovine colostrum contains an insulin-like growth factor-1 that can encourage the growth of the cancer. If you have this type of cancer or are even at risk for it you should exercise caution before taking colostrum supplements.  Like any type of supplement you should consult with your doctor before taking bovine colostrum in case it is not good for you in a way that you do not immediately perceive.

Symbiotics Colostrum

Symbiotics Colostrum

Symbiotics colostrum is a nickname for the colostrum manufactured by Symbiotics of New Zealand that is also known as New Life Colostrum. Like all colostrum on the market this type is manufactured from the clear fluid that is emitted by cows.

The difference between this type of colostrum and other brands is that the Symbiotics is created from the fluids of pasture-fed cows in New Zealand. Symbiotics colostrum is also regarded to be a premium supplement because these cows have not had their maternal fluids tainted by antibiotics or the growth hormones (such as the infamous bovine growth hormone) that is given to cows in other countries to have them increase their milk production.

Whether you are buying Symbiotics Colostrum or colostrum under another brand name probably the most important thing you should look for is information about where the colostrum comes from. Colostrum from cows that are not pasture fed or that is taken from cows that have been injected with antibiotics or growth hormones could actually make you even sicker and even create a resistance to antibiotics later in life. This is why sticking to brands of colostrum that is made in countries that have banned bovine growth hormone, such as Symbiotics Colostrum from New Zealand, is a good idea.

Probably the worst country to buy colostrum in is the United States where the use of the bovine growth hormone, antibiotics and forced feeding of animal entrails is still a common practice. Your best course of action is to stick with brands that are known to be safe like Symbiotics Colostrum.

Another good brand of symbiotic colostrum is made by Naturade. Naturade has been acquired by New Life Foods, Inc. which makes Symbiotics Colustrum. Both companies have similar strategies and sell lines of colostrum products that have been manufactured so that they provide the highest IG (insulin growth factor) possible. Both companies are prohibited by New Zealand’s government from changing, misadvertertising or making false claims about the product. Why is insulin growth factor such an important component of Symbiotics Colostrum? Although it sounds like something that regulates blood sugar, it actually doesn’t and this is how the product got its false reputation for curing diabetes. It actually succeeds more as an agent that detoxifies the colon and improves the immune system. The stabilizing of blood sugar may be the long-term result of the over all stabilization of the body once a person’s health returns. The higher the amount of colostrum in the supplements the more effective it will be. Colostrum Symbiotics is known for having a high-standardized dose of colostrum in each formula. The New Life and Naturade companies have also gotten quite creative with how they package the colostrum, which formerly was only available in tablet or powder form. It is now available in different flavored chews such as pineapple and chocolate. This candy like form of the supplement is a boon for those who are trying to boost the health of cranky children who don’t like to take pills.
